I’ve devoted a lot of my time to my education. I feel that a good education is important to be successful, not just to make more money, but to help you achieve your goals, no matter what they are. How often have we heard that some of the greatest actors (not just the most attractive actors) have degrees and higher education that would surprise us? Education is important, no matter the field. I’ve dedicated a good portion of my life to obtaining knowledge, and most of that was done online, at an accelerated pace.
In 2004, I began my higher education – at Mohave Community College. I was working full-time and putting myself through college. I managed to stay out of debt, not incurring any student loans. I had a few scholarships because of my academic standing in high school. I obtained 2 associate degrees and 2 specialty certificates within 3 years. I took mostly online courses, and as much as I could, I fixed my schedule so that I was only taking 2 courses at one time. This was necessary because of my work schedule and also because of my sanity. Taking a full course schedule and working full-time is a bear in itself. Taking accelerated courses helped immeasurably. I would take four courses per semester, however all four would be only 7.5 weeks long instead of the full 15 weeks. When 2 stopped, 2 more began. I have no problem with determination and my work-ethic, so this worked out perfectly for me. Imagine my surprise and elation when I discovered Arizona State University Online offered the same kind of setup! I’m currently on track to graduate with honors in December 2015. This has been one of the greatest experiences of my life.
At ASU, I’ve had to do several projects and presentations. You can see one such presentation here. I had to do a specific presentation on the Problem Solving Approach as pertains to writing. It was a lot of fun and helped me become comfortable with presentations and narrating them.
I strive to do my best in all that I do, and sometimes that hard work pays off. I’ve made the dean’s list for both my community college degrees and at ASU. I put my all into my work and have been rewarded with promotion and other honorable mentions. I put 110% into my family and I couldn’t ask for more in return. You truly do get what you give which is why I strive to be my best.
